About Soren R. Welling

Soren Rasmus Welling was born in 1917 in Skanderup by Lunderskov. Born
in modest conditions in a large sibling group. Soren Welling started as
a farmer, but his main occupation was as a painter (also taught) and
some sculpture.
Soren Welling came to Mejlby in 1964 and has throughout most of his
life, a collector. At first he collected stones, flint stones, and
axes, which today has become a major beautiful Neolithic collection.
Soren Welling got an idea ‘to create a village from around 1900. He
therefore began to collect unlimited amounts of conservation and rare
cases, one could imagine existed around that time. In 1973 began Soren
Welling so to build. He collected recyclable materials from the
surrounding area, and built them small coherent houses in which one can
find the school room, grocery store, living room, bedroom, fellow
chamber and various workshops. Soren Welling was both architect and
builder, and he did not ask for a building permit. “If you do not ask
you do not get no” was his motto.
Soren Welling was not a member of the church, yet he built a church.
For, as he said: The inn could not be dispensed and the church should
be there.
Soren Welling lived in his own world. But when he went to the pulpit in
church, he told the vibrant and bustling to interest visitors. He
forrtalte about his world without laws and rules, without interest and
war.
Soren Welling was married twice and had seven children. He died in 1996,
where he was buried from his church.
